Testing items for cosmetics/skincare products

Jan 19, 2026

Cosmetic/skincare product testing covers four major categories: microbiological, physicochemical indicators, safety, and efficacy, ensuring product safety and quality. Microbiological testing includes total bacterial count (reflecting hygiene status), total mold/yeast count (assessing storage stability), and specific pathogenic bacteria (such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which are highly pathogenic). Physicochemical indicator testing involves pH value (5.5-7.0 is suitable for skincare products), heavy metal content (strict limits for lead, mercury, etc.), preservatives (such as parabens), antioxidants (vitamins C/E), and alcohol content (which needs to be controlled to minimize irritation). Safety testing assesses risks through skin/eye irritation tests (observing erythema and edema) and allergy tests (patch testing). Efficacy testing focuses on properties such as moisturizing (measuring water content), whitening (melanin measurement), sun protection (SPF/PA values), and anti-wrinkle effects (skin elasticity analysis).
